Meet Clover A. Perez, the Founder and Executive Director of A Beautiful HEART Ministries

After spending a period of time in federal prison, Clover experienced first-hand the lack of resources provided for women after they are let out of detention. Today, women account for a growing share of the incarcerated population. While the number of women in prison continues to increase, Clover has set her sights on helping meet the needs of those who have been recently released.
  

What is the mission of A Beautiful HEART Ministries?

A Beautiful HEART Ministries is a nonprofit organization created to improve the quality of life for women re-entering society. The mission of the organization is two-fold: First, by providing resources, educational tools, trauma care, spiritual guidance, entrepreneurship, workshops, and seminars to facilitate change and restore healing. Second, to cultivate a safe and loving home for children of incarcerated parents by meeting the social, economic, and emotional needs of this forgotten population.

 What drove you to start A Beautiful HEART Ministries?

As a previously incarcerated woman, I directly experienced the scarcity of resources provided for women and girls who are re-entering society. After being released, it is common for women to be rejected by their communities. It can also be difficult for them to find housing, jobs, etc., I wanted to be the catalyst of hope for these women by working to provide the services they need for effective reentry.

What makes A Beautiful HEART Ministries unique?

My passions combined with my sense of purpose through the organization enable me to run a nonprofit that stands out.

What is the biggest obstacle the organization has faced?

My biggest obstacle with A Beautiful HEART Ministries is getting my organization funded. There are a number of organizations competing for the same grants which can make getting funding a very strenuous process.

What has helped you overcome this obstacle?

Seeking the Lord has helped me in all areas of my life. God has been the movement in my life to help me keep things in perspective.

What is one piece of encouragement you would offer an entrepreneur facing similar challenges?

One way to succeed is to keep your actions congruent with your belief system. In the long run, being authentic and transparent will reap rewards.
