The Lack Of Time Is Not The Problem

What would you do with an extra hour in your day?

It’s likely you just skimmed over your to-do list in your mind or perhaps smiled at the idea of staying in bed for just a little longer. Whichever end of the spectrum you find yourself on, one thing seems to be certain, we could always use just a little more time

The concept of a work-life balance is often referred to as being elusive. Work and everything else can seem to be in constant competition, which means something is almost always left behind. As a Christian entrepreneur, you not only have to contend with trying to operate and maintain a successful business, you also have to focus on your health, your family, and your faith.

If we look at life as independent fragments, this can be an impossible struggle, an Everest with no summit. However, when we approach life and business the way God intends, we may well find that we have all the time we really need.

Put First Things First

This concept may have been made popular by self-help experts, but the Bible in Matthew 6:33 set a precedent long before then. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these things will be added unto you.” When we take the approach of trying to fit worship and service to God around our lives, we inevitably fall short. Instead, we should seek to fit everything about our lives around our worship of and service to God.

God is limitless, not just in His wisdom but also in His resources. When we commit our days, our plans, our lists to God and remain open to hearing and receiving guidance, we can be assured that our paths will be ordered by Him. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that, “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Becoming aligned with God’s purpose at the beginning of our day keeps God as our homing device. When our minds are focused on doing God’s will, it will be manifested in every area of our life. The more time we spend in God’s presence, the more we develop the fruits of His spirit joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control).

What a difference it makes in our lives and businesses when these fruits become the anchor and foundation of all that we do! When we commit to representing God in all that we do, our health will improve, our relationships with others improve, our businesses and finances improve, and our effectiveness as disciples improve.

We can stop seeing our businesses as something outside of our ministry and acknowledge them as an instrument for God’s glory. The gifts and abilities that go into your business’s success are given from God to be used for God.

We don’t need any more hours in the day. God, in His wisdom, has given us all that we need. Now, all we need to do is commit to following through on our assignments every day.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10: 31
