Three Bible Verses Every Business Owner Should Know

When God led the children of Israel out of Egypt into Canaan, He gave them a set of principles to live by that can be found in Deuteronomy. At the time, the Israelites were the only worshippers of the one true God, and He wanted to use this chosen nation, to make known His glory. Everything He told them to do ran counter to the cultures around them and at the very core was the idea of sacrificing self-reliance and independence and replacing it with trust in and reliance on God.

As Christian business owners, the call on your life is quite similar to the Israelites of old. The marketplace, regardless of your particular industry, is teeming with practices and traditions that may yield results for some, but run counter to the culture that God wants to establish for you. These 3 Bible verses are important reminders and prompts to keep in mind as we seek to show up in the marketplace not just as business owners, but as Kingdom Business Owners.

HABAKKUH 2:2

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

This passage is an excerpt from a conversation between God and one of His prophets. It’s one thing to receive a vision from God for your future, but writing it and making it so plain that it can be seen from afar, reminds us in whom our confidence lies. It is in God alone, and we must have faith that He is in control. If you believe your business plan or idea was planted in your heart, then God wants you to do more than receive it, He wants you to take action.

PROVERBS 16:3

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

We may not always know which plans we should act on immediately or what ideas to bench or simply discard. If we look around and use the filter of comparison and pure market strategy to make our decision, we may miss out on an opportunity to experience an incredible miracle in our business. This passage reminds us that even as we implement the strategies and lay the plans that have been proven to work, we should always commit our ways to God and submit our plans to Him.

PHILIPPIANS 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Being calm in the midst of a crisis is one sure way to set yourself apart as a Kingdom Business Owner. The global economy is notoriously unpredictable, the stock market is unstable and it seems as if everything is somehow always on the brink of collapse. God knows all this, yet He instructs us in Philippians not to be anxious despite these anxiety-inducing conditions. When our faith is planted in Him, we have the stability that no one else had, and that faith and trust are testimony in itself.

Business Ownership is endorsed by the Bible and Christian Entrepreneurs are called to conduct their business according to the principles written in the word. These three Bible verses for Christian Entrepreneurs are but a few of them.

How about you? Do you have a favorite passage that helps you on your entrepreneurial journey?
