“We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
Sometimes we rush past the foundation.
We dive into the doing—serving, helping, encouraging others—without slowing down to ask:
Have I actually received the love I’m trying to give away?
God’s love is not a to-do list or a theory. It’s not just something we teach—it’s something we must know deeply, personally, and often. Why? Because the kind of love God asks us to show isn’t something we can fake. It’s supernatural. It’s rooted in the gospel, not our grit.
And the only way to give that kind of love is to first receive it—fully, honestly, and without rushing.
Reflection Prompt:
Have you been living loved? Or have you been trying to love others while feeling disconnected from God’s love for yourself?
Take a moment today to stop striving and start receiving. Let the truth of 1 John 4:19 sink in: We love because He first loved us.
Prayer:
God, I confess that sometimes I try to serve You without being filled by You. Remind me of Your love—not as a concept, but as my constant reality. Help me to live from that place. Fill me so I can pour out. Heal me so I can help others. Root me in love so that whatever I do flows from You.
Amen.
